How to watch speed climbing: Team USA’s Emma Hunt explains

At the 2024 Paris Games, speed climbing will have an Olympic medal for the first time. During the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, speed climbing was part of the single sport climbing event that combined three disciplines.
Speed climber Emma Hunt walks fans through what to look for when watching speed climbing at the Olympics, from the paths athletes take up the 15-meter wall to the gear that keeps them safe.
Hunt, who will make her Olympic debut in Paris, set a national record for speed climbing in April at the North American Cup Series. Last August, she became the first U.S. athlete to qualify for speed climbing at the Olympics after finishing in the top two at the 2023 IFSC World Championships.
Hunt will represent Team USA in women’s speed climbing alongside Piper Kelly, who secured her spot on the Paris team after beating Hunt at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.
